At East Village Dental, thanks to ceramic braces, we’re able to offer patients looking to straighten their teeth a more discreet alternative to metal braces.

What are ceramic braces?

Ceramic braces work in a very similar way to traditional metal braces, using brackets and archwires to gently reposition and realign the teeth, but in a much more subtle and discreet style. They are fitted to the front of the teeth, much like metal braces, but because they are made with thin metal wire and clear ceramic blocks, they are much less noticeable.

Why choose ceramic braces?

As with all our cosmetic or orthodontic treatments, we’ll first start with a consultation where we’ll determine which treatment is appropriate for you and your teeth. Ceramic braces do have a lot of benefits. Not only are they more subtle and discreet than metal comfortable, but they can also be more comfortable for the wearer.

What is the treatment process like?

When we’re ready to attach your ceramic braces, we’ll first apply a solution to the teeth to ensure they are clean and dry, and ready to receive the braces. The brackets themselves will then be attached to each tooth, followed by a thin tooth-coloured wire which will be passed through the brackets. This is held in place by what are known as ‘O’ rings which are also clear to ensure the braces remain as discreet as possible.
Once the braces have been applied, you’ll come back into the practice every 6-8 weeks, and we’ll make sure everything is moving along correctly. The wires will be changed at these appointments, and will increase in thickness as the treatment nears its end.

Will I have to wear a retainer after?

We always recommend wearing a retainer to a patient who has just received any orthodontic treatment. This is to help ensure your teeth don’t move back to the position they were in at the start of the treatment so that you get to maintain your new happier, straighter smile for years to come.

Very nice clinic. Facilities look clean and modern, and the operation of three teeth extraction was done in just a couple of minutes. The dentist was really good and obviously very experienced. Just had my second appointment and I cannot recommend this practice enough. From the receptionist (all are kind but Grace especially was so helpful) getting me my initial appointment during a busy period to Dr Leah who did my filling for me.
