Our dental team at East Village Dental will do everything they can to save a tooth from extraction, but there are some cases where it is the correct course of action.
A tooth extraction, although somewhat daunting for the patient, is a fairly routine treatment that is used to remove a tooth that is too damaged or decayed to be restored.
We’ll recommend a tooth extraction only when necessary. Reasons for needing an extraction include impacted or infected wisdom teeth, overcrowding of the mouth, and in some cases, baby teeth that haven’t fallen out when adult teeth erupt. As mentioned, we might also recommend a tooth extraction if a tooth is damaged or decayed beyond repair.
We’ll administer a local anaesthetic that will numb the area, meaning you won’t feel anything. In a simple tooth extraction, we’ll then gently loosen the tooth and easily remove it from the socket.
If a tooth is impacted or below the gum line due to being broken, we’ll have to create an incision in the gum, removing the tooth at the root. In this case, the gum will then be sutured to help it in the healing process.
